I think the obsession with predictable and consistent outcomes is always the thing that will inhibit a true artificial general intelligence from being built by a capitalist enterprise.
A truly intelligent being is inherently unpredictable and difficult to control. That's why corporations are always trying to eliminate humans and their vagaries from their systems. They don't want intelligence, they want obedient and efficient slaves.
