When I'm at home, *everything* is up to me. As in, there are probably ways to get that same kind of stimulation and context around my job, but only if *I* make it happen. *I* have to actively engage with my job to make it interesting, and if I don't have the executive function to do that then I drift away and lose interest.
It's like I need to be completely immersed in a topic to be motivated by it. There needs to be a constant background hum of context so I don't forget about things.
